New noogler: airlock question

Hi
I just got my noogle and I tried to use it today. I bought the contoured cups with airlock, manual pump, no gauge.
There are no instructions, so I just tried to understand how it works.
Am I right in thinking that when I pusk on the metal levers next to the valve, the tubes should pop off (with its connector attached) and the cup should keep the vacuum unaltered?
Right now, when I disconnect the tubes there is a huge loss of vacuum that doesn't get any better (so it's not temporary: air just flows until the cups detach).
Am I doing something wrong? The cups stay up if I keep the tubes connected.

Thank you for your help

You are correct, the is how its supposed to work. Make sure the valves are turned all the way in and the O-ring gets compressed. Years back when I had some when they came, they weren’t all the way tightened. If they still continue to leak you may have to turn them out, put a little white Teflon tape, a little, on the threads in turn it back in to help with sealing the threads
